WHANGAREI.
(From our Own Correspondent.) This day.
Violent Storm
A violent storm swept Whangarei between six and eight last night. It came on suddenly, accompanied with forked lightning and hail. The Comet says : " The stornj broke in upon nsfromN.W., then passed away to the E. obliquely. A lull intervened which was superseded byaheavy fall of hail from hugebanks of clouds haDging over our heads, which threatened utter annihilation, while considerably westward of the zenith the moon was shining on t, the splendour of whose tinted rays formed a golden edge to the black clouds. Th scene was awfully grand. The thunder and lightning were incessant."
