Supposed Wreck.
In our Wellington telegrams fco*day appears the finding of a piece of wreckage near Kaikoura. The description of the piece of wreck exactly answers the description of the headboards of Mr. Kicool's well-kown topsail schooner the Peerless, aud the telegram would therefore at first sight appear an alarmirig one, but we are happy to state for the benefit of the friends of the crew of the Peerless that the circumstance is very easily accounted for. Last February when on a a voyage from Auckland to Lyttelton the Peerless had one of her head-boards washed off. ; That found yesterday is no doubt the missing board, which has been floating about for six months and has at last been washed ashore. We are indebted to Mr M. Niccol for this satisfactory explanation. The Peerless was last heard of among the Isiands; where she is away on a cruise.
