The Police and the Hotelkeepers.
ARREST POP. PEE JURY. Two girls of bad character named Harriett Podestere and Annie Absolom were to-day arre Bted by the police on a charge of having committed wilful and corrupt perjury in giving their evidence yesterday in the Licensing Act case, in which Mr.'Evans, landlord of the Pacific Hotel was accused of selling alcoholic liquor on a Sunday. It will be recollected that the two girls swore most positively that though they were in the house on Sunday evening last they ha.d no liquor supplied them, nor saw any liquor supplied to any body else. Qn thier testimony the charge against Mr Evans was dismis-ed. They will be brought up on Monday and it is said that evidence will be forthcoming proving their assertions to have been totally false. \.-.-'.i
