CHRISTCHUROH.
(Per Press Telegram Agency.) This day. Abolition. A very large meeting was held last night, and most unanimously passed, a resolution by Mr Wynn Williams, Provincial Treasurer, to the effect that the proposals contained in the Government Abolitional Bill would be conducive of great and lasting benefit to the colony. An amendment in favor of of first submitting the measure to the people of the colony, this - was received with mingled -cheers and hisses, but was negatived. The esolution. was then proposed by Mr. Saunders, late Superintendent of Nelson, to the effect that while the meeting would offer no impediment to the abolition of the Provinces, they would avoid any expression of approbation of the details of the Government measures, especially as regards nomination for election of Superintendents and plurality of voting to property holders. The motion was negatived by a large majority.
