The Australian Cricketers' Visit: The Trip Not Likely to Come Off.
Our correspondent in Dunedin sends us the following:— At a meeting of cricketers last night it was resolved that the proposition of the Melbourne promoters of the intercolonial match could not be entertained and the sub-committee was requested to write to Melbourne that in effect the terms asked by Melbournites were far in advance of the amount offered by New Zealand. The secretary stated that a similar decision was arrived in Christchurch. [We understand that the secretary of the Cricket Committee, this afternoon, received a further communication from Mr Goldsmith in reply ts the offer of 750- made to the Australian team, and that the Committee will be called together, at an early date, to consider the proposals now made on behalf of the Austrlaians. The terms of tne offer are not yet made public]
