Fearful Death, at Marcer.

Word was brought to town to-day that the dead body of a man was found yesterday afternoon, about half-past four, ab Mercer, between the township and the old tunnel. It was lying in a swamp, in four feet of water. The name of the man who made the discovery was Jno. Boggs. the name of the deceased lias not been ascertained, and nothing was found on him likely to lead to his identification. He is said to be a stranger in the district. When found the body had a large wound on the back of the head about one inch and a half deep and four inches long. There was also a bruise fiom the throat extending to the wound. The swamp is close to the line of railway, and the footsteps of a man were this morning plainly discernable along the edge of the swamp. It is possible that the deceased may have fallen across the track, and been struck by the guard of an engine on Saturday night, and thrown off to where he was fouud-. Besides this, there is no other clue to the way he came by bis wounds, which ai-e quite sufficient to have caused death. An inquest was to have been held in Mercer, at the Point Russell hotel, to-morrow.
