(From our own Correspondent.) This day. Important Supreme Court Case The case of GJassford v. Reid and others ■was finished at the fc-upreme Court. It was an action to recover £1700 damages, and to prevent the defendants and others from polluting Thompson's creek, Manuherika. The jury fonnd a shilling damages for" polluting the stream, and £50 damages to the land. They further found that the defendants did not pollute the stream wrongfully. To-day Mr Macassey obtained a rule nisi to enter a verdict for the plaintiff.
The Guardian announces an increase of price to threepence.
Mayoral Elections. Mr Walters was elected Mayor of Dunedin by a majority of 372 over Mr Reeves. Only 1736 votes were recorded. It is the first time a publican has been elected mayor here. At Port Chalmers, Mr McKinnon was returned by a majorily of 92 ; at Lawrence Mr Freer was elected by a majority of 34 ; and at Oamaru Mr Sumpter by a majority of 50. Waste Lands. Only cne application waa received in Dunedin for IGOO acres opened for sale at Paipahee Hundred.
