WAITAKEREI EAST HIGHWAY BOARD.
The annual meeting of the ratepaj ers of this. r * district took place on the 17th, at one o'clock, at the Oratia Hotel, Henderson's Mill, when Mr H. W. Henderson was called to the chair. - --- The minutes of the last annual meeting were C read and confirmed, and the following statement of accounts was read and adopted:— Receipts and expenditure from 30th June (1874) to 30th June (1875): ReceiptsBalance in bank, £23 7s lid ; rates collected, £52 7s lOd ; General Government grant, £80; Provincial ditto, £39; total, £194 15s 9d. Expenditure—Paid for forming roads, £95 ~:; 3s ; channelling and draining, £7 Us; bridges and culverts, £59 6s ; commisssion for collecting rates, £6 11s; salaries and rent, £3? { I 10s ; stationery, chequebook, etc., £1 7sld; , advertising, £5 12a 6d; balance in bank, 7 £15 15s 2d ; total, £194 15s 9d. It was pro- • posed by Mr John Smyth; and seconded by. Mr Bethell, that the land be valued at £1 per acre, and the rate be Id as heretofore! Mr Westley moved, as an amendment?'' That on account of the unsatisfactory manner in which the work had been performed by the tiustees ■no rate' be chaTged', which - lapsed for want of a seconder. The original —*'" * proposition was .then put and carried. (The f* following gentlemen were proposed aa trus- | j tee 3 : —Messrs Jno. Smyth, H. W. Headerson, J. Wa3ley, J. Bethell, J. Huston ', A. Kelly, and W. Freeman.. Mr G. Cantwell was also proposed, but declined.. Messrs • Sisam and Cantwell acted as scrutineers, and the result of the poll was as follows : Henderson, 16; Freeman, 14 ; Smyth, 12; Bathell, 12 ; Huston, 11; Wasley, 8 ; Kelly, 6. The first five were duly elected trustees for the ensuing year. Messrs Seaman and Yon der Heyde were re-elected auditors, and Messrs Sisam and Snell were elected as.fenceviewers. A vote of thanks to the chairman brought the ratepayers meeting to a close. A meeting of the newly-elected trustees was ■, held immediately after the above, at which • S Mr Francis Bethell was appointed Chairman of the Board. -- -
