July 3 to 9. It is rumoured that Sir George Bowen will be appointed to the Governorship of Bombay, as successor to Sir P. Wodehouse.—The San Francisco mail was delivered on the 28th of June. The new service commences in November.—There is a semi-panic on the Stock Exchange, caused by the recent failures. The London and Westminster Banks paid dividends of the usual per centage, but their losses are estimated at half a million sterling, and the Bank deposit reserve of fourteen millions had, to be drawn on.-The jury in the BeecherTilton case, after a week's deliberation disagreed and have been discharged.— Sir H. G. Bulwer is appointed Governor of Natal.'—The Australian mail via Brindisi has been delivered.—The Government troops in Spain under General Jovellar completely dedefeated Doersquarie in Aragon, and has besieged Contavangia, the stronghold of the Oariists. —In the House of Commons, Mr Burke said that the communication as to correspondence relating to the Russian occupation of Khiva was premature ; but that tho Government had abandoned a policy of a reutral tone and refused to fetter its freedom of action. Relations with Russia were BtiJl friendly. Galle, July 9. The Pera left Galle for Australia on the 3rd instant.—The Emperor of Germany visits Italy in September.—ln the House of Commons, Lord George Hamilton said that the Indian Government insists on Burmah placing no obstacles in the way of obtaining redress for the murder of Margery 5 but the King has refused to permit the passage of British troops. Lord Hamilton believed that he would eventually yield to the demand of England. —It has been resolved that the cost to Parliament of the Prince of Wales's visit to India should be confined to defraying the ri'es of hospitality, a turn probably of £30 000. The Naval Estimates of the visit amount to £52,000. The personal expenses and cost of presents are estimated at £60,000. The Prince starts from England on the 17th October.
