(From our own Correspondent.) This day. Auckland City East Disfranchised-
The people here ask why Sir Julius Vogel did not resign his seat in the House when he found that the state of his health would prevent him returning to the colony in time to take part in the session, and in the discussion of the great constitutional questions. By not doing so he was disfranchised his Auckland constituency. The Chief Justice's Charge. The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court opened yesterday. The calendar was not heavy, and the cases possessed little more than local interest. One noticeable feature in the Chief Justice's address to the jury was that, unlike Mr. Justice Johnson and Mr. Justice Bichmond, he launched into nothing of colonial application but confined himself strictly to the business before him, and to explaining the law to the court and jury.
