MANGARE RATEPAYERS.
At the annual meeting of the Maiigare ratepayers the auditors refused to pass the accounts in consequence of the item £48 15s, legal expenses incurred in the case of Walmsley v. K. Wallace, damages for detention of cattle. The item was struck off the books by the meeting, thus throwing it a debt on the trustees. The accounts were then passed. Receipts: £427 10s Sd ; the expenditure left a balance of £48 15s 9d ip. hand. Mr Andrews hoped the ratepayers would make some effort to lighten the trustees of their burden in the Wallace - Walmsley case. The meeting resolved that a voluntary subscription equal to a penny per acre be raised for the purpose. A rate of 6d per £ on the annual value to let was levied, the annual value being fixed at 10s per acre. —Messrs H. Hardington, H. N. Vercoe, J. Johns, W. Paul, and 'J. W. Robertson, juur , were elected trustees without opposition j Messrs K. Lynch and C Shipherd, auditors ; Messrs J. Henwood and J. Wallace, fence-viewers. It was resolved that Mr fiae, ranger, be paid the full amount of his salary ; also, that a pound should be erected within the district^
