POLICE COURT.-THIS DAY.
(Before,his Worship the Mayor). DRUNKENNKfS. John Smith and Edward Somerton pleaded guilty, and were fined for this offence. THE LITTLE POODLE. Edward Austin was charged with allowing bis poodle dog, Toby, to wander abroad without r. collar. . Defendant said his daughter only had the dop, which was a fine little poodle, given her on the Saturday, when it was captured by the constable. The collar was taken out oil Monday. It ccuuld not have been taken out sooner. .ate. \ This statement was not disputed by bergt.Maior Pardy. His Worship inflicted a,fine of ss. and costs. THE CHILDRENS' PLAYTHING. Sydney Smith appeareed to answer a similar charge. Defendant pleaded guilty "so far. He said that the dog was only a puppy and was used as a plaything by the children. Mr Inspector Broham told him the summons ■would be withdrawn if the dog was destroyed^ The very mention of this at home caused such a crying match among the children that he was afraid there would be open mutiny among the youngsters if the warrant for the pretty creature's death was signed. Tt was only a wee little doggie, and was particularly harmless; besides, it was only three months old. His Worship, moved by this touching appeal, inflicted the nominal fine of Is and costs. OTHER CASES. William Finlay, who simply pleaded guilty to a like accusation, was fined 5s and costs, while Priscilla Smith, a poor woman, who bad destroyed the offending quadruped, was let off altogether.
