The new arrangement between the Banks came into force to-day, and discounts now are 7 per cent, under 95- days, and 8 per cent, above that period, while the highest rate of interest to be allowed is 5 per cent. It is expected this will release a great deal of money which was withdrawn from ordinary channels of investment so long as the banks gave 7 per cent for deposits. Mr O'Rorke to be Chairman of Commlttees. The Tribune understands there is not likely •f 0 beany opposition to the appointment of O'Rorke as Chairman of Committees of House of .Representatives, and says there is no doubt the Government will support his reappointment.
