SILENCE IN HEAVEN.
[There was silence in heaven for the space of half-an-hour ] Intentest calm of silence fell Once, for one little half-hour space, Where blended songs forever swell In gladness through the holy place. Then ceased from every golden iyre The finger-touch ttut woke its chord, And every voice in ail the choir Was hushed in presence of tho Lord.
What heart in all that listening peace Grew overfull for silent praise. And dared be first to bid it cease ! Some soul led home through thorny ways ! Or some who out of fire and flood Had reached a shelter safe and sw«ot? What one of all who, bought with blood. Were kneeling at tho desr Lord's feet?
It may have been a little one, Whosj spirit could not understand The wonder of the silence thrown In. mystic awe'on voica and hand, Who sudden broke it with a cry Of love's amaze and love's delight, And woke the chorus of the sky Anew to sorrow's matchless might.
Oh, for such a pause when we shall bow, Drar Christ beforo thy blessed face ! A silent moment, sweet and low, To praise, unworded all thy grace, To fei-l the beating of thy heart. That once our woe was nigh to crush, And worship thee with tender art Amid the hallelujah's hush.
