PORT CHALMERS.
(From oar own Correspondent.) This day,
A Hard Case
The stoppage of the Port Chalmers railway contract of Strachan and Company, of Wellington, resulted in a meeting of workmen, held this afternoon, to consider the best means of recovering the money owing them. Nearly 200 were present. The meeting was very well conducted. A statement of account was made out, whereby it was shewn that £11,109 13s. Sd. was owing to the sub-contractors, and £223 to day labourers. The Government is to be memorialised upon the subject, through Mr Mansford, the Port Chalmers R.M.
