A WANTON PIECE OF MISCHIEF IN THE HARBOUR.
A sinouxaPv incident occurred in the harbour yesterday which on the face of it looks a sample of that mischief which Satan finds for idle hands to do. Early in the morning it was discovered that some one bad removed a plug below the water line of the Enterprise No. 2, steamer. When the disnovery was made, the water, to the extent of nearly three feet, had flooded the hold, and a large quantity of cargo there stowed was in some cases quite ruined and in others more or less damaged. As soon as possible the leak was stopped, and the water pumped off. It is said that the steamer would have settled down in another half-hour. As a matter of course the consignees refused to take delivery of their goods in their soaking state until guaranteed from loss by the owners of the boat, who will most likely be put to serious expense over the affair. There is little doubt that the act was perpetrated maliciously, and the offenders may rest assured they will not be suffered to enjoy ilieir little joke without Btrenuous efforts being made to expose and punish them.
