COLLEEN BAWN.
This well-known and widely popular drama was presented to a good audieace on Saturday evening at the Prince of Wales Theatre, and commanded the amount of applause which usually accompanies this lively and ever acceptable performance. The Auckland public are not unfamiliar with this play, which was some fourteen years ago adapted from one of Griffin's novels, and which had an immense run at Astley's Amphitheatre. The piece, as its title implies, is essentially Irish, and descriptive of Irish life. The leading character, Eily O'Connor, was represented by Miss May Howard, - with all the vivacity and penetration of character of which that lady is capable. Eily also gave Miss Howard an opportunity of displaying her vocal abilities, and her songs were moat satisfactorily re-
ceiyed. Mr. Collier made an excellent Myles, and the songs "Pat Molloy" and 11 Paddy's Wedding" were sung in excellent style. Miss Clara Stephenson, as Ann Chute ; Mrs. Jones as Mrs. Cregan, Mr. Aveling as Kyrle, Mr. Deering as Father Tom, Mr. Holloway as Danny, and Mr. Sweeney as Bertie, gave a perfectability and fullness to the play, and rendered it extremely interesting. This evening, a drama of a very different order will be produced, in three acts, entitled " Dora," founded on one of the most beautiful of Tennyson's poems.
