ARRIVAL OF THE MAIL STEAMER CYPHRENES.

The R.M. s,s Cyphrenes, 1280 tons. T. Wood, Esq., commander, arrived in harbour lest night two days before her tme, from Saa Francisco, with the Englhh mails, having made the pasage in 24£ days, and 37 hours within contract lime- We are indebted to Captain Wood for the following report of her passige:—Left .Auckland at 5.45 p.m. on the 16th April, punt leaving us at G43p m. Arrived at Honolulu at 10 a.m. on 3rd May, having made the passage from Auckland in 10 days 15 hours During the ran had prevalent N.E. winds. Left Honolulu at 8 a m, on the 4th, with strong cast north-east trades and tine ; had fine wea'her and smooth sea to latitude S6 deg, 20 mm north, longitude 130 deg west; thenca light variable winds and fine weather to San Francisco, arriving there at noon on the 13th May. making the passage a few hours within contract time, against the strong head winds experienced throughout the greater parfcofthe pa?sage. The mai:s left for London on the following morning. The outward mails having arrived on the previous day, we sailed from San Francisco on our contract day— 25th May— at n-on (Sydney time): cleared the Golden Gate 12.30 pm, wind strong from N.W. with heavy sea; nest day increased to a gale from north northeast, shipping a deal of water and pitching heavily ; this continued till the 27th whsn it moderated. Arrived off Honolulu at midnight on the 2nd June. making the passage in 8 days 12 hours from San Francisco: Left Honolulu at 615 p m same day Cleared the harbour at 7 pm with light north east trade?. Passed TutoiU on the 12th June at 5p m. Thence to the Kermedec Group, which was passed on 10th June (Raoa Island or Sunday Island being just visible), faint easterly airs and fine weather and smooth sei Crossed the meridian on the 17th June ; thence to the Groat Barrier variable winds and unsettled weather ; sightt'd the Barrier at 2 30 o m on 18th June ; Tiritiri at 7 p m ; entered the harbour at 10..6 p m ; arrrived alongside the vharf at Auckland at 11 30 pm, raakirg the passage from Honolulu in 15 days 4 hours, and from San Francisco in 24 days 11 hours. TakiDg the pissige as a whole, it has been marked with extremely fine weather. Mr Bis* is thagent in charge of tin Ne* Zealand mails.
