CHRISTCHURCH.

(Per Press Telegram Agency.) Friday. How the Money Goes. The report of the Royal Commission on the Kakaia bridge has been published. It reflects strongly on the conduce of both the General Government and Provincial Government engineers. The contractor (White) was permitted to alter the criginal design in many particulars, and to carry out the work much as he liked.- The Commissioners stated that the total cost of the bridge was £36,196, and that of this there has been overpaid and wasted on it £6937, added to which the whole of the bridge has now to be replaced, owing to the timber originally used being worthless.
