-The Assembly sat at two p.m. to-day.

NOTICE OT? MOTION. Tke Rev. D. Bruce gave notice that, at the next sederunt of tho Assembly, he should move that a committee be formed to consider the question of education. MANSE FCITD. The Rev. Mr .Ross then introduced his motion respecting the establishment of a Manse Fund. The motion, which, was somewhat modified on discussion, ran as follows : —Whereas many ministers of this Church are subjected to much inconvenience and suffering by reason of the inadequate provision made for the accommodation of themselves aucl their families, that the Assembly appoint a committee to obtain information regarding the manse accommodation existing in the several charges of the Church with the view of preparing a manse building-scheme, and to report to the next Assembly. The motion was seconded by Mr.Thomas Macffarlane, and carried. The following gentlemen were then constituted a committee in furtherance of the motion : —Mesar3 Elmslie, Paterson, Boss, Smart, Turnbull, Sommerville, and Taylor. The Rev. Mr Elmslio was appointed convener.

DEPARTURE OF THE REV. MR. PATERSON,

The Very Rev. the Moderator said he was instructed to ajmlogise to the House for the early departure of the Rev, Mr Paterson. That gentleman had received a telegram bringing news of the illness of Mrs Paterson, and he had left by the steamer from Onehunga at two o'clock.

SUSTENTATIOX FUND

The consideration of this subject was then entered upon.

The motion of the Rev Mr Wallace was first taken, " That the Assembly approve of tho principle of a Sustentation Fund, and though not prepared to lay it down as a law for the whole Church recommend the different Presbyteries, eithor separately or unitedly, to consider it and to take' action thereon, subject to the sanction of next General Assembly."

The proposer was making an eloquen speech in support of the motion when ou reporter left.
