ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

A SPECIAL meeting of te above Society was held this afternoon a^ two p.m. in the rooms of the Auckland Istitute, J. C Firth, Esq., in the chair. Preent: Messrs T. B. B. Gillies, E. B. Owen, W. J. Hurst, Thos. Macfarlane, D. L. Munock, W. Swanson, Dr. Campbell, Burt, iioodall, and the Secretary.

The minutes of preious meeting were read and confirmed.

Several matters arising out of the minutes were discussed.

The Secretary annomced that the grouse, as introduced by the "Society, was bidding to be a success.

The question as to tte registration of the society was answered ly the Chairman, who said that the preliminary steps were being taken, and the matter was in the hands of Mr T. B. Gillies, aM would be perfected as soon as possible.

The chairmaa said that as this waa a special meeting called for a special purpose, viz., the resignation of "their secretary, and gentlemen should confine themselves to that point. He then read Mr Kirk's resignation in consequence of that gentleman having accepted the lectureship of natural science in connection with the Wellington College. The resignation of Mr Kirk was accepted with the thanks of the Council for his past labours in advancing the interests of the society. Some discussion ensued as to the propiety of advertising for a new secretary ; but it was finally agreed that the question should stand over for consideration. The meeting then adjourned until Monday next.
