LAND SPECULATION AT OPOTIKI.
TAURANGA. This day. Much interest is felt at the result of the Lands Court at Opotiki. Auckland speculators are waiting an opportunity to bid high against the Government, and it is said £100,000 is ready for investment. Mr McLean left Napier on Saturday, and is expected on Thursday. A stormy public meeting was held last night to reconsider the subject of a site for a park being applied for. The majority objected to re-opening the matter, which has now become a violent party question—Edgcumbe versus Clarke.
