PAKURANGA ELECTION.
The election of a gentleman to represent the distrct of Pakuranga in the Provincial Council took place to-day. There were three candidates ': Captain Peacocke, Messrs J. Gordon, and W. Woodward. A great deal of interest was manifested in the result, and the supporters of both parties were busy during the day. One thing likely to result from the contest, we are informed, is an action for libel against the printer and author of the '' Revised Catechism for Pakarangans" alluded to in our last issue. Mr John Wallace this morning applied to Mr J. H. Field, job printer, of Albert-street, §[and obtained the manuscript of the Catechism with a view to ulterior proceedings. The polling places of the district wore Utahuhu and Howick.
A Star pigeon was despatched to the latter settlement to supply the place of electric wire, the benefits of which the Government have not yet bestowed on the district.
