REED & BRETT'S AUCKLAND ALMANAC FOP. 18 74. TH E Publishers beg leave to announce tho approaching publication of tho second number of this Almanac, In doing so they desire to rxjiress their extreme gratification and gratitude for the unexpected recc tlon accorded to tho first i-sue. In submitting to tho residents cf the province tho fitst number of what tlmy were determined to ultimately make a household necessity, they had calculated on meeting with a certain amount of apathy, and incurring no inconsiderable loss ; and in printing two thousand copies of the Almanac they had expected that at least a thousand would remain on hand to be given away gratuitously, it win, therefore, with surpr'se they found before the half of tho first month of the year had passed that every (■■■]>/ had been sold, and that orders were pouring in from all their agents requiting almost unequal nurnboi to that already supplied, a demand which it win found impossible then to meet owing to the t'pufhavlng been distributor), instead also of a pecuniary lo?s it was found that there had resulted a very considerable profit on the first issue. Kncoutaged l.y such results the publishers have no longer hesitancy rts to the extent to which they may venture in the endeavour to m.'iko their annual an unrivilled hand-book for the province', anil they are resolved Hint the coming number will as far excel its predecessor as that excelled the worthies;; HtHoVllilfcnUotl issued by Mr Chapman. It is not their purpose to indicate tho several points of cxcelloncc that will characterise their Almanac for 1874. Suffice- to say that through their agents, enquiries by correspondents, and a special commissioner proceeding through the various settlements, ihe information respecting the several districts will Vie of the most extensive and exhaustive character, while guided by just experience the publishers! have marie provision for the supply of any demand for tho publication that is likely to arise for any additional demand. As the agencies of the Evening Star, which will be agencies for the Almanac, arc now extended all over the province, the distribution of tho issue will be prompt and general; and as it is not the object of the publishers to make any pecuniary profit by the transaction, but only to produce that whirh will be beneficial to the province; interesting and useful to the public, and indicative to their own enterprise, thoy confidently rely on even an increase in the cordial ami Mtibstantial encourago ment afforded to the first edition. f HEED & BRETT, Publishers.
