THE PROVINCIAL COUNCIL NOMINA-
TION
GRAHAMSTOWN,
This day. The nomination of candidates for the representation of this district in the Provincial Council took place to-day. The following gentlemen were proposed:—Messrs Swan, Bagnall, Otto, Hopcraft, Carpenter, Brown, Leydon, O'Haire, Robert Graham, and C. F. Mitchell.
The candidates were allowed ten minutes each to address the electors. The show of hands was—Brown, 175; Mitchell, 149; O'Haire, 122 ; Hopcraft, 99 ; Swan, 77 ; Leydon, 71 ; Carpenter, G2 ; Otto, 55, Bagnall, 44 ; Graham, G. Mr Swan demanded a poll, wdiich is fixed for Wednesday. A vote of thanks to Captain Fraser, returning officer, concluded the business. It is raining hard all clay. The creeks are flooded.
George Slyam, a boy of fourteen years of age, employed by Mr Walker, milkman, Parawai, was drowned to-day, while crossing the Kaueranga Creek on horseback. The horse stumbled-in the middle of the creek, and he fell into deep water. The boy was washed down the creek, but the horse sw ram ashore. The body was not recovered.
