NEW ZEALAND AGRICULTURAL ANNUAL CATTLE SHOW.-THIS DAY.
Piiesidsxt : His Honor the Superintendent. Vrcr.-Pr.FsrDEXT. Mr "WHliara Goodfellow. Treasurer. Mr William Woodward. Mr Joseph May I Mr Edward Bovey Hon. Eveiy Mac Lean j Mr Alfred Buttle" JJr William Cirdencr Mr Jlobeii Benf JM r .T. Balnbridge Mi Charles Sliiplierd MrThos. Wor:in Mr -Andrew Anderson, Mr M. Tatlob, Secretary. The attendance at the Cattle Show was very good considering the counter attractions, and the distance of the exhibition from town. There can be little doubt that the receipts would have been treble if the show had been held in Auckland. The exhibits in some respects were not equal to what we have seen, in former years, and other defects were noticable, which were tracable to the mismanagement of the committee, both in regard to their niggardly and narrow-minded arrangements, and the holding of the show at such a distance from the city. With the exception of two or three members the committee was quit.fi unequal to the duty entrusted to it, and but for the exertions of these gentlemen 'the affair must have been a greater failure th^in it proved. If the exhibition had been (held at- the new Markethou so in the ciliy instead of Mr. Bucklaud's paddock, loetween two and three miles away at JN'ewmarket chosen in spite of the representations of the Market Committee, who offered their suitable and commodious building for the , purpose, backed up by eotsideraMe pressing on the part of the luspector, tlie result would have been very different. That in this particular the committee made a mistake is very evident. Where such_ an eligible place in the heart of the city might have been obtained it certainly does seem follj t on the part of the bucolic minds who preferred a suburban paddock at suck a distance from town. We give below a list of the prizes awarded, but are compelled to hold over our comments on the show until to-morrow. Mr. McConiish, with an excellent band, was on the ground and played various selections during the day. ITw judges gave satisfaction. HORSES. —T.UO ROUGHBRED CLASS. Judges—Messrs G. J. Austin, G.
