We are obliged to hold over the letters of " Scoria Grammar," on Mr. Brogden and the nine hours question;" "W.8./' on the Eegatta ; " Observer," on the case of Fenton v. LeEoy; and "A Looker-on," on " Another Ghost."

The annual meeting of the Auckland Dispensary Society was held last evening at the Mechanics' Institute. Benjamin Tonks, Esq., M.P.C., occupied the chair. Messrs. Ewcn and Buchanan tendered their resignations as treasurer and secretary. The meeting "was adjourned until the 6th prox.

The regatta committee met last evening an d distributed the prizes won at Monday's regatta.

There was an amateur performance of a mixed nature last evening at the Theatre Royal in aid of the' Cadetjband. There wa9 a good attendance. Some accidents occurred to a young aspirant to fame, by falling off the trapeze and also the horizontal bar. A cadet broke his arm by falling through a trap onjthe stage. It is a pity such exhibitions as flying trapeze is allowed, especially when practised by novices, as the performer not only endangers his own life, bub also those /who are seated beneath him.. The annual general meeting of the members of the Northern Club will be held to-morrow afternoon. Applications are required by the Harbour Board for the appointment of a shipping and wharf clerk. The salary is to be £100 per annum. Tenders have, been invited by Mesara. Brogden and Sons for the supply of a quantity of timber for the Waikato Railway. The Central Board of Education held a meeting yesterday afternoon. The appointments of Inspector of Schools and Secretary were agreed to be separated in future, and the salaries fixed for each post —namely, Inspector, £300 per annum, with travelling expenses ; and Secretary, £100 per annum. The halfryearly meeting of the Shotover No. 1 G-oldmining Company (Registered), advertised to be held this morning, at eleven o'clock, at. the Mechanics' Institute. A few shareholders were present, and, after waiting o rei- twenty minutes, the meeting lapsed for waut of a quorum. The process of laying down the piping between Seccombe's Brewery and the Domain, is proceeding, and will be completed, we believe, in course of to-morrow. The ship Cadueeus, from London, has been spoken by the City of Adelaide, steamer, 40 iniies off the Bay of Islands. She is 105 days out. The City Council held a meeting yesterday afternoon, to disousa business in reference to the Water Supply. Terms were agreed upon on which the Council would meet any company or private individual, who would undertake the supply of water to the city. The sensation occasioned by the accusation of Mr Cyrus Haley on a number of charges, comprising, ai'son, attempted murder, and other crimes, has been mo3t intense, and the Police Court and its precincts crowded. The whole interior was packed densely ; and the eager spectators outside thonged the windows in vsuch a manner as at times almost to prevent the flow of air through the open sashes, and, by their noise outside, almost hindered the magistrates, reporters, and others from hear* ing the testimony.
