POLICE COURT.
THIS DAY. Before Thomas Beckham, Esq., R;M.,
and Captain Holt.
DRUNKENNESS.
Three drunkards were disposed of in the usual manner; and Jane Kelly, being a habitual drunkaid, was sent to prison for one month. aesok. John Oartwright was charged with unlawfully, maliciously, and feloniously setting fire this morning to a dwellinghouse in Wakfield street, the property of the Eechabite Society. This case was remanded for a week on the application of the Inspector of Police, bail being allowed. lAECENT.
Thomas Hamilton, a lad of 11, was charged with stealing" fruit to the value of five shillings, and money to the extent of six shillings from the shop of Gr. Hazell. He pleaded not guilty. George Hazell deposed to having missed the property after a short absence. | A little boy named John Smith deposed that on the morning in question he saw prisoner and other boys coming out of Hazell's shop with oranges. Prisoner then admitted having taken the fruit. His Worship gave the boy some good advice, and sent him to gaol for twenty-four hours, to be privately whipped during his incarceration. BEEACH CF MUNICIPAL COUNCIL ACT. Robert Martin, for allowing the chimney of his house to catch fire, was fined 10s. and costs.
