In the Sittings in Banco, to-day, tlie rule in the case Buchanan v. Watt was discharged. • In the case Hare v. Tiffen judgment was given for defendant. A deputation from Blenheim, consisting of Messrs. Baillie, Dodson, Henderson, Ward, and Conolly, came over in the Taranaki, and waited on Ministers, to urge the reconsideration of the appointment of Mr. Byes as Magistrate for Blenheim. Ministers say they will take time to consider it.
A large bush fire has occurred at Carterton, fifty miles from Wellington. The East Coast road and the whole of the bush is burning. Eleven houses have also been destroyed. There is another rumor about Teddy Wakefield going to start a morning paper. The regatta yesterday was a failure, owing to the high wind. The racing gig belonging to the Independent was swamped, but the men were saved. There was great excitement. In the Bankruptcy Court, to-day, Hapuku's case was ordered to stand over.
