GAS COMPANY.

The half-yearly meeting of the Auckland Gas Company (limited), was held this afternoon, F. Whitaker, Esq., in the chair. The chairman said that the half-yearly meeting was merely held to explain the state of accounts, and to declare an ad interim dividend. The state of affairs did not at present justify the directors hi declaring more than ten per cent, per annum, but they had every reason to suppose that they would be able at the annual meeting to considerably increase that amount. The falling off was principally attributable to the decreased price of gas. The report, to this effect, and the balance-sheet, were then read. The report was adopted, and the dividend of five per cent, for the halfyear sanctioned.
