WATER SUPPLY.
We learn that Messrs Seccombe were desirous of having a contract for twelve months, but seeing that the present pipes from the Domain could not deliver any very greatly increased supply, the Superintendent was unwilling to enter into any agreement beyond a month. The Mayor has, however, again communicated with Messrs Seccombe, and, yielding to his solicitations, and the urgency of the want, have consented to give the supply for two months or more, as may be required. In this matter, owing to the multiplicity of goverements, the Cit} 7 Council cannot act without consent of Superintendent, Domain Board, &c. The Mayor has forwarded Messrs Seccombe's offer to the Superintendent, with a request that it may be at once accepted, and not an hour lost in connecting the supply with the Domain reservoir, it now rests therefore with the Provincial Government Some of the city wells arc having extension of pipes, and tenders are to be received up till to-morrow for a public well in Symond and Barrack-streets.
"We learn that Mr. Carruthers has written to the Mayor asking for information as to the flow of water from the contemplated supplies of Onehunga, Waitekerie. and Low and Motion's. Also as to the method such flow was recorded so that any future examination may be done in the same manner. Perhaps some of our correspondents may be in possession of information beyond that at the disposal of the Mayor.
