NEWTON KIRK SABBATH SCHOOL.
A very interesting ceremony took place on Sunday afternoon in the Newton Kirk, which will be long remembered by the sabbath scholars attending the school there. Some time since a collection was made and the money was laid out in books to be given to the scholars attending the sabbath school. The rewards were given according to three distinctive marks, one for good attendance, one for good conduct, andjone for well repeated lessons. The rewards were given by the Eev. Dr. Wallis, who addressed the children in proper terms before and as each one came to receive his or her book. Those who had the greatest number of marks received a handsome bible. Other books were given to those who had not so many, but so good has been the attendance that all the young people received a book. An address was delivered by Mr Doull, the Superintendent of the School, who contrasted the advantages of Sabbath scholars at the present day with what they were forty years ago ; and showed a prize he had received when ho was a Sabbath scholar. This is a small card, with Mr Doull's character as a Sabbath Scholar on one side, signed by his teachers; and a scripture text on the other. It ig now upwards of forty years since Mr Doull received this card, and we believe he is the oldest person in Auckland connected from early life with Sabbath Schools.
