DEPARTURE OF THE CITY OF AUCKLAND.

That magnificent specimen of naval architecture, the good ship City of Auckland, took her departure from this harbour to-day. This vessel is, comparatively speaking, a new one, being now only on her third voyage, although her commander, W. Ashby, Esq., has for a long series of years been a constant trader between this port and the United Kingdom, and has commended himself to all classes both of passengers and long-shore people by his obliging disposition and urbane manner. He has now got a ship which doe 3 credit to his nautical skill; and we hope he will long continue to navigato her across the pathless waste. "With Captain Ashby's usual good fortune, the wind which had long persistently blown from the Eastern hemisphere, chopped round without warning last night,—just in time to blow itself into a strong breeze by mid-day, when the fine vessel weighed anchor and went down the harbour before it with all the principal sails " swelling ont before the pale," and giving the s.s. Hero, which left about the same time, quite as much as she could to hold her own with her. The p.s. Enterprise took off at least 200 people, friends of the captain, officers, and passengers, who remained on board till the last moment, drinking success to those about to traverse the waters. With many cheers they then pushed off, wishing good luck to all. The ship carries a valuable cargo, and a full complement of passengers, and we heartily wish her God speed and a prosporous voyage.
