COMMERCIAL.
Evening Star Office, Monday afternoon. Mr. L. W. Eaton sold to-day, at his rooms, a consignment of fruit, ex Hero. There was a good attendance. The following are the prices obtained : Pears, 2d. farthing to 3d. halfpenny per lb.; plums, 4d. farthing tosd. farthing per lb. ; apples, 2d. to 2d. farthing per lb. ; oranges, 7s. to 10s. 6d. per case ; passion fruit, 6s. 6d. per case.
Mr. It. Arthur held to-day at his mart, an extensive sale of fruit. There was a good attendance of the trade. The prices realised were not as satisfactory as on former occasions, owing jjto the long voyage from Sydney, and the inappropriate arrival on a Saturday afternoon, thus causing a delay in selling of at least two days, so that much of the fruit was so soft as to realise nothing. The following are the quotations : Oranges, 9s. to 9s. 9d. per case ; apples, 2d. farthing to 3d. farthing per lb.: plums, Id. halfpenny to 4d. per lb. ; pears, 2d. to 2d. halfpenny per lb. ; pine apples, Gs. 6d. to 7d. per dozen ; peaches, Id. three farthings to 6d. three farthings, per lb. ; nectarines, 4d. three farthings to sd. per lb ; lemons, 9d. 3d. per case ; passion fruit, 7s. 9d. to Bs. 6d. per case. Mr. G. W. Binney sold to-day a large quantity of fruit. The competition was brisk, and fair prices realised. The following are the quotations : Apples, 2d. three farthings per lb. ; pears, 2d per lb. ; oranges, 13s. per case.
