MANUKAU HARBOUR.
To the Editor of the Evening Stab. Sir, —I observe that the piles, stringers, &c, of the wharf at Onehunga arc thickly encrusted with barnacles, and other sea-shells, marine grasses, &c. If this coating was scraped off and an application of coal tar applied, the timber would last for three or four years longer than Junder the present system of neglect. We have a harbour-master, pilot, chief boatman, .wharfinger, and whale-boat's crew, some of them at a loss how to put in their time in the least wearisome manner, and I have no doubt would rejoice in doing something for the public benefit in consideration of the public's pay. Could you not try and get this very necessary renovation of the wharf done ? Your leader about the case of Jeffares has produced excellent effects. Please lend your aid and accomplish the object I have written upon. \
I am, &c, \ Tax-payem.
