We take the following from the Sydney Mail: —" On Thursday evening, 21st, immediately after parade, Captain Bamford, on behalf of the members of °No 8, or Prince Alfred's Own Battery, presented Sergeant-Major Green with a purse of twenty-five sovereigns as a mark of their respect and gratitude for his energy and careful instruction in their various drills, This battery was only formed last July, and, under the Sergeant-Major's tuition was dismissed all drills in less than four months, and now ranks as efficient as the older batteries. A similar testimonial has been given during the month by the members of No 6 Battery to the same instructor.

The Imperial G-overnmenthag, in answer to an application made by the AgentGeneral, Mr Cooper, decided to present to the colony of New South Wales a number of guns, to be used for the defence of Port Jackson.
