PRINCE OF WALES THEATRE.
Lord Lytton's splendid play of Eichelieu was produced last evening. Mr Morton Tavares appeared as Richelieu, and his rendering of the wily Cardinal was throughout a masterpiece of acting. His reading of the part was admirable. Nothing could be better than his elocutionary emphasis, nothing more appropriate than the gestures and attitudes with which he accompanied the text. There was with Mr Tavares no deficiency of power. The k>plause was throughout the evening vary warm, and he was recalled before the f "\i tain at the end of nearly every act. j\as'' Surtees as Julie de Mortemar, performed the character with much grace and taste, and was rapturously applauded throughout. Mr B N Jones appealed advantageously as De Mauprat, while Mr Joyce made the most of a minor part. It is to be hoped that the management will reproduce this piece on another occasion. To-night Othello will be produced, the present excellent company being strengthened by the re-appearance of Mr Hoskins and Miss Florence Colville. The cast will include Mr Hoskins as Othello, Mr Tavares as lago, Miss Surtees as Pesdemona, and Miss Colville as Emelia, an array of talent that should not fail to draw a crowded house.
