December 27. The first pile of the Waitara Bridge was driven on the 18th by the Superintendent in the presence of a large number of people from "New Plymouth. His Honor complimented Northcroft, the engineer, and spoke in hopeful terms of the prosperity of the province. Cobb's coach was driven down to the Waitara for the occasion, and Mr Young's health was cordially drank and responded to, in his absence, by Mr Emmerton.
