By the arrival of the Go-ahead, s.s., in tho Manukau this morning,, we have received Southern papers to 27th insfc., from which wo take the following telegrams : —

CHURCH STEEPLES BLOWN
DOWN
EXTENSIVE DAMAGE
FRIGHTFUL
J3O AT ACCIDENT
EIGHT LIVES LOST,
DUNEDIN
December 27
Great gale on Saturday. The steeple of the first church blown down, several stores unroofed, and groat damage in the country districts.
Boat accident on Christmas Day. Waterman's boat; with a pleasure party of young men upset; all drowned. Names : two Drews, three Serymgeour's, Bruce, Painters, and Proctor. Several houses burnt oa the Peninsula by bush fires. • Quartz reef containing gold plainly visible, discovered in Gabriel's Gully.
