BOROUGH COUNCIL
A SPECIAL meeting of the Borough Council was held this afternoon. Present : His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Macready, Hampton, George, Hobbs, Bugden, Isaacs, and
Correspondence.—The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, various correspondence was read, the most important being a letter from the Manager of the Bank of New Zealand, statingthatonaccountof loan No 1 £10,000 -°"-• ifoiu \V S Graham calling attention to the gr.'at nuisance occasioned by depositing rubbish and dead carcases in the intake
Pavements —His Worship said it was impossible to carry out the paving bye law at present as the supply of stone from Manga wai had been stopped. The quarry was however shortly to be worked again. Tender for Carting—lhree tenders were received, and that of Mr John Sadgrovc was accepted, subject to approval of his
sureties
Audit of Accounts. —It was settled that the auditor's fee should in future be £5 os. ■
Hawkeswood's Foundry.—A letter was read from the inhabitants in the neighbourhood of this establishment, pointing out the danger occasioned by it to life and property, and requesting steps might be taken to ensure their safety either by removing it outside the city- boundary or otherwise. It was settled to give Mr Hawkeswood permission to retain the building for three months only, after which it must be removed or re-erected in a substantial manner. Accounts, &c—The fortnightly accounts were then passed, and various reports having been read, the Council adjourned.
