December 9. Eosenwax has been committed for trial on a charge of fraud. A publican at Geelong, named Fisher, nearly murdered his wife to-day, and afterwards committed suicide. The body of O'Brien, murderer of Hasbrook, was found on the summit of Mount Cooryoord. Latest Adelaide dates confidently report an abundant harvest. Wool continues arriving from the wreck of the Loch Leven, at King's Island, leaving 800 bales there still in course of repacking. Maize firm at 4s. Teas, dull; sugars moving freely. There have been trade saleg of flour at £12 10s; wheat, 53 10rI. Sugars are easier. December 12. Prime Adelaide wheat rules at 5a Bd. " The Rev George Mackie is dead. The University crew has been finally chosen —Collins, stroke; Barker, third ; Carter, second ; Johnstone, bow; and Phillips, coxswain. The cricket team are also selected as follows : ■*— Campbell, Egglestone, G-ouly, Hepburn, Jennings, M'Pherson, Johnstone, Pinnock, Daniel Wilkie, David Wilkie, Thomas, and Cornish, emergency. The team leaves on,Monday. At auction to-day, Patna rice, £18; geneva, lls 7fd ; kerosene is firm at Is 9fd; twist tobacco is scarce ; candles dull; JDKZ sold at lower rates. December 13. Eosenwax still refuses to answer questions put to him in the Insolvent Court, and remains committed to gaol. A ictorian flour sold by auction at £12 10s; wheat, 5s 10|d; oats, 3s 2|d to 3s 3d; maize is selling freely at 3s 10d; there has been considerable sales of kerosene at Is 9fd to Is lOd. Adelaide wheat sold privately at 5s 9d to 5s lid. Thursday, December 14. Mr Hopkins, the owner of the racehorse Nimblefoot, is insolvent. The cause is said to bo losses from horse-racing.
The funeral of the remains of ihe late Rev. George Mackie was largely attended. The Bishop of Melbourne and clergy of all denominations were present, also several public bodies. The Pilot Board gave their decision in reference to the late collision ; the captain of the steamer Alhambra was to blame for an error of judgment, but the Board returned his certificate.
The Divorce Court is sitting and two decrees have been granted. A caVe of gold, 3000 ozs, from Hustler's claim, at Sandhurst, is coming down.
For the Australian Cup the entries are : —Flying Dutchman, Mameluke, Darkie, Saladin, Valentine, Contessa, Chancellor, Young Magenta, Warrior, Mabel, Mermaid, Romula, Lapdog, Juanita, Foam, Glencoe, Nimblefoot, Planet, Lady Clifden, Hamlet, The Baron, Little Dick, Pyrrhus, Pearl, Bylong. The entries for The A co and Kingfisher were five minutes late; and that for Daybreak forty minutes late.
December 15. The University crew left in the Wonga Wonga (s.) yesterday: The Albion goes infco the New Zealand trade, and sails for Auckland to-morrow.
Subscriptions have been commenced for the family of the Rev George Mackie, whose life was insured in the Australian Mutual Provident Society for £1000,
The Argus leader on the Border duties advocates a proviso that Victoria pay less than £30,000 if statistics show that merchandise liable to duty is under that amount. All they require is a fair and honest arrangement.
20,000 bushels cfPortMacdoonell wheat sold at 5s ; flour sold at £12 10s to £12 15s; sugars are selling freely; candles are very firm. Great snxiety is felt for the safety of the City of Shanghai, which is thought to hare gone ashore on King's Island. - The Shanstons, from Mauritius reports the loss of the clipper City of Venice from Glasgow to Bombay, on Roderiquez Island ; the boats with the crew were rescued by the Shanstons, and taken to the Mauritius ; The Captain of the Venice was censured there by the Marine Board for carelessness.
There is no change in wheat or flour ; kerosene sold freely in large lines at Is lOd.
Mauritius dates are to Norember 1. The tendency of the price of sugars was to advance, and is given as follows : —Finest yellows, 6.25 dols ; finest counters, 6 dols ; a large business is doing for England and Bombay ; 40,000 bags white crystals sold for Bombay at 68,690 dollars. The Condon was loading for Sydney, and the Loxton Vale and Kassa for Melbourne.
