The absence of a more direct medium for advocating the cause of Volunteering than the local Press has been a want long felt throughout the colon) of New Zealand, more especially as colonists are bound to look to this source for the future defence of their adopted homes. And as the time has at length arrived when the public are becoming sensible of the necessity that exists of its thorough organisation and support, the establish* rnent of ''The New Zealand Volunteeb, Gazeetb and Colonial JTobces Eecoed" will be found to supply the means required. The following synopsis comprises tho subject matter to be contained in the " Gazette." All subjects of interest to Volunteers, including parade announcements, minutes of meetings, target practices, Government circulars, records of promotions and resigna* tions, &c, of officers and non-commissioned officers of the different corps ; regulations, rules, and all movements in connection with the various Eiflo Associations, together with, the latest extracts from the Home Military, Naval, and Volunteer Journals ; also a carefully compiled epitome of sporting intelligence from the intercolonial and European publications in connection with the " turf"; acquatic sporting news, and all healthful exercises and recreation. A correspondence column will be open for the expression of views relating to all matters in connection with' the Volunteer Force and subjects of Local interest. As an advertising medium the " Gazette" will be of the greatest importance to the several corps. All district orders and company parades are to bo inserted at a nominal rate of charge, and will of necessity bo brought more prominently under the notice of those mo3t particularly interested. Terms of subscription (in advance), 3s per quarter. Officers commanding corps are respectfully requested to send in their returns of intending subscribers immediately, as it will be necessary to form an approximate of the average number»required before the publication of the first issue.
