Morrin's, iTO HIS EXCELLENCY SIE GL F. - | ]30WEN, G-.C.M.G. | ' rflHB humble PETITION of tho Share JL brokers of the City of Auckland, in tho ! Colony of New Zealand, sheweth — I (1) That your petitioners notice that an ! act entitled the Sharobrokers' Act, 1871. has | in tho last session of the Legislature been pass* i sed to be in force in the several provinces of | this colony as.and where jour Excellency may | see fit. I (2) That the provisions of the said act if I brought into force will bear so heavily and injuriously upon youv petitioners that they j cannot refrain from memorialising your Excellency against bringing it into operation until a session of the Legislature may afford ! your petitioners the opportunity of addressing i tho Legislature on the subjects, j (3) That meantime youv petitioners would ur^e the request on the following grounds — («) That the suggestions made to the Legislature in regard to such an act na i the present were made not by the body I of sharebrokers or representative men of such body, but merely by a few individuals who did not express in such suggestion the wishes of tho body of sbarebrokers carrying on business in Auckland. (Z-) That the Act will virtually be a great burden On the Auckland Province only as here and here alone at the present time as there any considerable number of brokers available to be effected by the Act. (c) That in other communities, centres o shave transactions equally and more ex» tensive than here, licenses as contemplated by this act have not been deemed necessary either for protection of tho public or the brokers. (d) That in the present instance the fees incident to the Act in question would deprive many respectable and honest men of a livelihood, and thereby oppress and injure many deserving citizens. (c) That the interests of the public are at present protected against fraud and criminality by other Acts available to punish the guilty. (/) That the impoaers of the Act would tend to destroy freedom of commercial intercourse and an open market. Your petitioners therefore feel that great, and greivous injustice and injury to many would accrue if the Act is at present brought into force in its present form, and they there* fore humbly pray that your Excellency will see fit not to proclaim the Act in the Province of Auckland, until your petitioners shall have an opportunity of memorialising tho legislature on the subject, and your petitioners, in duty bound, will ever pray.
