THEATRE ROYAL.
A very beautiful drama, by Boucicault, was pet-formed last evening at this theatre, and the part of the heroine was taken by Mis* Clara Stephenson, who achieved a great success This young lady appears 6 uinently qualified-' to sustain such parts if that of
" i'auvrette," where unsophisticateu innocence and tenderness combine with strength of mind, and an innate sense of what is r.ght, to render the heroine a heroine indeed. L'he interest is sustained throughout, and the piece isone of the be_t ever put upon the Auckland boards. And never was one better brought on in the matter of scenery and machinery. Mr. Perriman, the scenic artist, receivsd quite an ovation in the third act, where a Swiss chalet was in the foreground, and. immense mountain masses behind, w Tie a shower of tremendous rocks and congealed snow came thundering on the cottage, damned to he buried for three months. The applause was immense, and Mr. Perriman was obliged to come to the front and receive the well merited reward of his ingenuity. Mr. Burford too-; the male .ensationai part in theplay, and Mr. J. P. Hydes, Miss Anstead, v Miss Raymond, Mr. Booth", avid others, acted: well, an i shewed that they fully realised the i parts as-ioued to them. The audience were* thoroughly delighted, and this very successful drama is to be repeated this evening.
