itr. Mitchell to ask the Provincial Secretary, " Upon what ground the office of SubInspector of Police at the Thames has been continued, the salary of the office- having been struck out of the Estimates for the current year by this Council ?"

Notices of Motion,
ilr. Ellis to move, " That a respectful address bo presented to His Honor the Superintendent, requesting him to send down to this Council a return of the amount exponded on surveys and all other charges and expenses whatever in connection with the lvaipara railway up to the 31st of October, exclusive of payments made;:Under'the Kaipara railway contract." ;
Mr. Ellis to move, " That a respectful address be presented to His Honor the Superintendent, requesting him to cause to be laid upon the table of this Council a copy of the Kaipara railway contract; a copy of the specifications :and surveys under which the-con-tract has been taken, together with all papers and documents shewing the nature of the security held by the Government for the due performance of the work."
Mr. Hamlin to move, " That a respectful address be presented to his Honor the Superintendent, requesting him to furnish this Council with a return of the expenditure of tho vote of £1,250 for steam subsidies, such return to state the number of steamers subsidised ; the ports to which such steamers are running; and the amount paid to each SWamor,"
Mr. Swanson to move, "That the petition of Hooper and Co., brewers, be referred to the Petitions and Private Grievance Committee."
~Mr. Mitchell to move, "That the petitioa of, John Sheard, of Howick, pensioner, be referred to the Petitions and Private Grievance Committee."
