R. HORNE, Manager. Auckland, November 20,1871. "TvISTEICT OEDEES. Auckland, November 23,1871. The Officer commanding the district very imn-h resrets to be obliged to remark upon irregularities which hare already occurred upon the new Rifla Range at Mount Eden. Volunteera'have fired at the target before the disc defining theL'evious hit had teen withdrawn; the marker's pe*sr! was consequently exposed, and his life in imminent danger. Volunteers have fired from the firing point- not at the targets, but at objects not on the range at all And Volunteers of only two or three weeks' standing have beon provided with rifles and ammunition, and p-rmitted to appear on the range for practice, without actually knowing how to lo.ul their rifles 1 hese are irregularities of the gravest nature, for whick officers commanding corps, and the senior or non-commisioned officer on the range, are responsible. Such carelessness or inattention to orders on the part of Volunteers must inevitably result in their dismissal from the force, and possibly in consequences of a far more serious nature. W. GORDON, Major, Commanding Auckland District.
