MINING.—OCCIDENTAL LEASE.
We were shown this mi)riiing,*:;at JVf> office of Mr. JVlonbray, the l-gal aHmager of the company, some rich nnd^eXcecdinsly'heautivui specimens just takeu out of "the claim. The ground is situated on the-Taraiu river, a littljb belftw that of the Vulcan ' ompsuiy ; aiul it seems that the mioers employed in (Irivirsg, a short time a>{O cut tLiroiigh a reef about ten feet, thick, .apparently, leading, from that claim. Tiiis reef has. now been .broken down, and tiie result has been the extraction of quartz of a description so highly auriferous that the shareholders are
sanguine the claim ...will shortly prove one of the best on the ground. The specimens vre saw; are partly blue and partly white quartz, and are thickly impregnated with the precious metal. Indeed, in some places there seems to be solid masses of gold. The works are being carried on with vigor.
