To the Editor of the Evisxi-vo Si'ak
Sic, —In tlie Croat this morning I notice a paragraph according its nicer! of pivti.-e to the City Council for " 'their attention to public comfort, by plentifully sprinkling the principal streets wilh water on Saturday night." As it rained heavily all day Saturday, I might be permitted to think thia was a work of supererogation, or, if you will pardon a bad pun, of mperirrigalion ; but as I am not in the City Council, I suppose I have no right to think. Heigbo ! "It neer rains but it pours!"
Joking apart, let ns give credit where credit is due, and inquire who pays for the 'Sprinkling," surely the Council? Surely i;W!! Not a drop does the public get from ilj and the "sprinkling" is paid by subscription levied upon tlie pockets of the business people living in Queen-street. As one of those victims I protest. I often looked and longed for the water cart when " the sun in his meridian height" &c, &c, you know, but never saw it. It never struck me before to look for it when " Lite dews of night were falling fast," after a soaking wet day too. I shall pay no more.—l am, kc,
Aquarius
