NEWTON CONGREGATIONAL SUNDAY SCHOOL.

Last evening the opening service in connection with tins school room, which has just been erected, took place, and was a great success, there being between four and Qve hundred persons present, a great many of whom were juveniles. "A most liberal feast, in the shape of tea find cake, was partaken of, after which Mr. Rout took the chair at the cordial invitation of the meeting. Ihe proceedings were opened with prayer by the Rev. Mr. McDonald, after which the following report was read by the Secretary; —

Peek's collection, £6 0s 81 ; ditto, Mr. Head's lecture, £4; ditto, High street Congregational Sunday-school il ss; ditto, children's Sunday offerings, £14 5s 6.1; donation, Royal Insurance Company, £7 10«; collected" by Mr, Lane (WangaroM, £3 5s ; ditto, Mr. Pugh (I'hiimrs), £4; ditto, Hiss Heath, 10s; ditto, Miss Spragg, including donation of £10 from .vl r. Enoch Wood, £15; ditto, Mr. Webster, £5 11s 9d 3 ditto, Mr. Black, £4 7s 6d ; ditto, Mr. J.ickson, £11 7s ; ditto, Wesley Spragg, til; ditto. Edwin Wood, including donation of £10 from Mr. Wood, Symonds-stroet, £L 5 19a; colleoted by Mr. Spragge, £25 5* 2d; I ditto, Mr. Ellyett, £17 ss; ditto, Mr. Enoch I Wood, £25 13s 6d ; ditto, children, £20 4s 3d ; 1 ditto, collections on last Sunday, £54 ; ditto, ]Noah Wood, including a donation of 1:20 each from Mr. Rout and Mr. J. 0. t?irth, £100 0s 6d. Total, £3GO 3s sd; showing a debit balance of £10 16s 7d, which will be wiuerl off with the proceeds of the soiree, and leave l a small balance in hand wherewith to provide ! school requisites, &c."
