AUCKLAND DIOCESAN SYNOD.
The Synod assembled yesterday, in the Bishop's library. There was a fuil attendance of clergy and laity. But it was evident, from Ihe aspect of all who were gathered together, I hat no business could tie transacted. The melancholy intelligence which had arrived lining the early part of the day struck everybody present like a heavy blow. Members of b ith orders could only greet each other in ■ugnifie.int silence. The death of the late Bishop Pii'teson was felt as the greatest calamity which has befallen not only missionary enterprise, but the eausw of religion itself throughout the whole of the Southern Hemisphere. The cathedral bell tolle I throughout, the day. The tfishop of Auckland took his scat at the usual h >ur, and the clerical secretary to the Synod (t he Rev. Mr. Burrows), read the minuted of the last, sitting, which were confirmed. Mr. Theophilus lvis.-ling ro<e, and, addressing the President,

Mr. Atkin, it would sor.-cly app ar in iiL-cordaiiire with the deep fveling of sorrow i>V which, I am sure, every member of tins Synod is impressed, to proceed wi h the ordinary business on the notice paper fir this afternoon. I therefore move, my Lord. " That in consequence of the melancholy in-bflligmic-e rec.-ived ti-day of tlio dea'h of Bishop Pitteson and the Rev. Mr. Atkin, this >ynod do adjourn to Tuesday next (this diiy week), and that the business then be of a formal character, no discussion to take place." i'he resolution was duly seconded and passed. The Bishop at once left the chair, mid the members of the Synod separated as they had ussembled, in solemn silence.
